Filming in Turkey: A Practical Guide for International Crews

Film, television, documentary, commercial, branded-content and editorial shoots can involve different requirements. The practical route depends on the production type, the production's nationality or status, public or private property, heritage or archaeological locations, drone use and whether professional equipment will enter Turkey temporarily.

A workable production plan starts by matching the shoot to the authorities, locations, crew, equipment and logistics involved. Not every production requires the same services or approvals.

Filming permits

Foreign productions may be subject to the Directorate General of Cinema procedure, while individual locations or authorities can require separate permission. See the dedicated guide to Filming permits in Turkey for the official-source overview and planning considerations.

Local production support

A local producer or fixer can support permit coordination, location scouting, contributor and access coordination, local crews, translation, transport, accommodation, production logistics and equipment sourcing where the production requires them. The appropriate scope depends on the brief.

Locations

Filming conditions vary by city, venue and authority. A street shoot in Istanbul, a landscape sequence in Cappadocia, coastal production in Bodrum or Antalya, and a location day in Izmir may each involve different access, timing, transport and permit considerations.

Drone filming

Aerial work may involve aircraft and operator requirements, airspace restrictions and permissions connected to the filming location. Review Drone filming permits in Turkey before fixing aircraft, operators or shoot dates.

Equipment and ATA Carnet

International productions bringing professional equipment should assess the applicable temporary-import and customs procedure. ATA Carnet coordination may be relevant, depending on the equipment movement and circumstances; the equipment list and travel route should be reviewed early.

Production experience

The site's Previous Works and Selected Work sections document real productions, routes, locations and the local services provided. They offer practical examples without implying that every shoot has the same requirements.
